OnVUE – PEARSON ONLINE TESTING QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE FOR CANDIDATES

BEFORE EXAM DAY  

✓ RUN A SYSTEM TEST 

  • Run the Pearson VUE system test at least one week before your exam.
  • Run it again 2–3 days before your exam.
  • Use the same computer, internet connection, and location you will use on exam day.

✓ COMPUTER REQUIREMENTS  

  • Desktop or laptop computer only.
  • Webcam required.
  • Strong internet connection.
  • Single monitor only.
  • Disconnect VPNs (Virtual Private Networks).
  • Close all unnecessary applications before testing.

✓ CHOOSE AN APPROVED TESTING AREA

Your testing area must be:

  • Private and enclosed
  • Quiet and distraction-free
  • Free of unauthorized materials
  • Accessible only to you during the exam

Not Recommended:

✗ Libraries

✗ Coffee shops

✗ Hotels

✗ Corporate offices with firewalls/VPNs

✗ Bathrooms

✓ REMOVE ALL PROHIBITED ITEMS: 

Do NOT have:

  • Notes or books
  • Paper or writing instruments
  • Smart watches or electronic devices
  • Wallets or purses
  • Headphones or earbuds
  • Weapons of any kind

✓ SELECT YOUR IDENTIFICATION TO SHOW ON TEST DAY

Acceptable IDs include:

  • Passport
  • Driver’s license
  • Government-issued ID card
  • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)

Important:  

  • ID must be valid and unexpired.
  • Name must exactly match your ATT (Authorization to Test).
  • Photo must clearly resemble you.

TESTING RULES  

During the exam, you must:

✓ Remain visible on camera at all times

✓ Keep your eyes on the screen

✓ Stay in your testing space

✓ Follow all instructions from the proctor

✓ Use the built-in chat feature if assistance is needed

You may NOT: 

✗ Leave your testing space

✗ Communicate with anyone

✗ Read questions aloud

✗ Cover your mouth or face

✗ Move out of camera view

✗ Use unauthorized materials

✗ Access your phone without a proctor’s permission

Violation of testing rules may result in:

  • Exam termination
  • Score invalidation
  • Future testing restrictions

 EXAM DAY CHECKLIST  

□ Computer passes system test

□ Internet connection is stable

□ Identification (ID) is ready

□ Testing room is secluded and quiet

□ Testing desk/surface is completely clear except for computer, keyboard, and mouse

□ Unauthorized items removed

□ Mobile phone stored out of reach

□ Power cord connected (if needed)

CHECK-IN WINDOW: 30 minutes before your appointment through 15 minutes after your appointment time

CHECK-IN PROCESS

  1. Sign in to your Pearson VUE account.
  2. Click Begin Exam.
  3. Copy your access code.
  4. Complete final system checks.
  5. Close all other applications.
  6. Launch OnVUE software.
  7. Submit required photos:
    1. Headshot/selfie
    2. Government-issued ID
    3. Four photos of the testing space
    4. Complete any room scan requested.
  8. Review and accept testing agreements.
  9. Wait for approval from the greeter/proctor.

MOBILE PHONE POLICY  

ALLOWED:

  • During check-in
  • If instructed by a proctor
  • During technical issues

NOT ALLOWED:

  • Texting
  • Browsing apps
  • Personal phone calls
  • Accessing the phone without permission

Store your phone:

  • In the room
  • Out of arm’s reach
  • Visible access only when approved by a proctor

AFTER THE EXAM  

✓ Follow all instructions to properly close the exam.

IMPORTANT: Do not leave camera view until the exam application is completely closed.
