Examination of Special Competence in Adult Echocardiography (ASCeXAM)

EXAM APPLICATION:

For your convenience the examination application is now available to register for the 2010 ASCeXAM.

To download the application, click on the above ASCeXAM Application link and submit the following documentation:

  • Completed and signed two page application
  • A copy of your current license to practice medicine with an expiration date or original, notarized letter from program director stating you are currently enrolled in a ACGME accredited training program and in good standing

    NOTE: Non-North American Trained Physicians applying for the ASCeXAM® must supply the following:
        If your medical license does not have an expiration date, you are required to supply ONE of the following:
    - An original letter from the Medical Council stating your license is permanent
    - An original certificate of good standing; dated no more than 12 months prior to date
    application received

    All documentation must be supplied in English. If original documentation is not in English, a certified translation must be attached to each document.

  • Application Fee
    (The NBE accepts check, money order, VISA or MasterCard)
  • Sign bottom right hand side of application

Mail, UPS, or FedEx the completed application, copy of medical license or letter from program director, and payment to:

Faxed or scanned applications will not be accepted.

The NBE recommends that if mail is used you obtain proof of delivery.

The certification application and supporting documents for certification is not required to register for the examination and can be submitted at any time.

The Application for Additional Certification in Echocardiography is included in the 2009 ASCeXAM Certification Application.

EXAMINATION DATE

LOCATION

The 2010 examinations will be offered as a computer-based format multiple-choice examination through Prometric Testing Centers. Prometric features more than 300 professional testing centers throughout the United States, U.S. territories and Canada. Computer-based testing allows candidates to take his or her examination in the convenient testing center close to home saving time and money. Further, the centers offer privacy along with a quiet and comfortable environment to take the exam. Examination questions and visual images are easily viewable from the computer screen and are generally of higher quality when presented on a computer.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants for the 2010 ASCeXAM® must hold a valid license to practice medicine at the time of application or must currently be in an ACGME accredited training program and in good standing. An original, notarized letter must be submitted from the program director verifying this information. The letter must also be on appropriate letterhead and include the ACGME program number.

Non-North American Trained Physicians applying for the ASCeXAM® must supply the following:

  • An original letter from the Medical Council stating your license is permanent
  • An original certificate of good standing; dated no more than 12 months prior to date application received

Non-North American trained physicians must provide equivalent documentation of permission to practice medicine in the country of principal resident. All documentation must be supplied in English.

NOTE: Only a copy of an applicant's current license to practice medicine or letter of good standing, completed application, and the application fee is required to sit for the ASCeXAM®.

CERTIFICATION APPLICATION

Physicians who passed the ASCeXAM® in 1996-2009, use the conversion application in the 2009 ASCeXAM Application brochure to apply for board certification.

For Physicians participating in the 2010 ASCeXAM®, please refer back to our website in late February 2010 to obtain a certification application.

The certification application and supporting documents is not required to register for the examination and can be submitted at any time.
